This project was done for the 2007 publication of the Fedamore News Magazine, which is an annual Christmas publication, covering everything of interest in the community over the previous 12 months and is now in existence for over forty years.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Historical Society would like to thank everybody for their contribution to our article on the ceiling of Fedamore Church. We could not have put this together without all the help we received. The Historical Society continues to meet monthly and anyone is welcome to join. We usually meet on the first Friday of the month. If anyone has any more information on the pictures included we would appreciate it if they could email us at: fedamorecc@gmail.com

Images with letters in them such as Ss recur frequently throughout the church. The letter S refers to Saint and the other letter is the Saint’s initial. We are of the opinion that each Saint is paired with the image nearest to it.

An example of this is the Franciscan symbol of crossed hands and the letters SF (Saint Francis).

Only in some of these cases were we able to identify the connection.

The ceiling was painted by J. Mahony, Cork in the 1920’s in preparation for the centenary celebrations. Bishop O’Neill visited Fedamore as part of these celebrations in 1931. The painting of the ceiling also coincided with the Eucharistic Congress, 1932.
